Homes

This is the apartment we lived in for almost four years while Dave was in school at Utah State University. Back then they were called the "triads" because there were three identical buildings placed to form a triangle. It made for an enclosed area where children could play and not get out. There were many triads--there were several (student) wards just from people living there. Our apartment was 38-H. It was upstairs. There were a lot of good things and a few not so wonderful things about living there. A good thing was that the rent stayed the same the entire time you lived there. That actually started the year after we moved in. We paid $108 a month for the first year, then the next year we paid $118 and it stayed that amount for the rest of the time. The buildings were long. We parked in the parking lot and then had to walk the length of one building, turn the corner and walk to the center of our building and then up the stairs. It was good excercise but not really convenient. Megan and Sam were born while we lived there. When I went shopping I had to be able to get Megan, Sam and the stuff to the apartment. It was too far to leave the kids alone in the apartment while I grabbed the groceries. I didn't dare leave Megan and Sam in the car while I ran the stuff in. So I got very good at carrying kids and groceries at the same time. Too bad those plastic bags weren't around then. It would have been nice to be able to grab a lot of them while I had Megan in one arm and Sam in the other and it would have saved me a lot of trips back and forth. When we got ready to buy a house my main requirement was an attached garage--I am sure this is the reason that was at the top of my list.

I'm glad you're writing down these memories. They're fun to read!

Oh my we are so spoiled these days. I love hearing what life was like for people when they were raising their kids. I'm sure my kids will look at the circumstances we live in now and wonder how we did it to. :) You are amazing!
