Dave had the opportunity to take some pictures of birds near Pierre on Friday morning, so I went along for the ride. We have lived in South Dakota over nine years and have never made it to see the capitol. Since we were so close we stopped by for a quick look.
Next year will be the centennial 1909-2009. There is beautiful stained glass in the dome. If the sun had been shining, I am sure it would have been even more beautiful (and I would put in a picture of it). It always amazes me what could be constructed without the tools of today. I also really liked the little dresses of the governors' wives.
Dave actually went to take pictures of prairie chickens (grouse), but he got a lot pheasants also. They were everywhere! We saw lots of birds. It was interesting how many we saw in pairs--it must be spring.
