Christmas Decorations

So I learned a new thing about blogs today. I need to put the pictures in the opposite order I want them. This was going to be the last one. My new decoration for this year is the bale of hay with the kids playing on it. It goes perfectly with the barn that Molly and James gave me last year.
Again, wrong order--sorry. This is a close up of part of the next picture. These two were my first village pieces. I got them from Grandma Gingie probably about 20 years ago.

I think Christmas decorations are a LOT of work. I told Dave last year I wasn't going to put up trees anymore. He told me that wasn't an option because I am a grandma and have to have a tree. So this year I have A tree. The smaller one downstairs. I don't have a tree upstairs and it looks bare and I have almost got it out several times, but I always stop myself. My village is what I spent time on this year. I decided I better put it out because next year Sam's baby will be crawling and I won't be able to do the bottom level. Almost all of my pieces have been gifts and I love them all. This year the top level is the town and the bottom is the country. I love my library and my Walmart (bought in Arkansas no less--Walmart headquarters). I love my cathedral and my little tractor--too bad it isn't blue (family joke). I love them all because they have such great memories of places or the people that gave them to me. Too bad I don't have pictures of my nativities--who really needs trees?

My mom decorated my mantle one year while we lived in Arkansas. She had candles in there too. I stored them in the attic and they are no longer part of the mantle decorations. Thankfully all that melted wax didn't ruin everything else. Who knew South Dakota got so hot in the summer? I try every year to recreate what mom did. It never looks the same each year (or anywhere as close to how nice she had it), but with the house lights off, and the twinkle lights on it doesn't look bad--especially from a distance. I always miss my mom, but especially when I need to decorate something. Every time we moved, she would come and add a few nice touches.
